Surfside Players Hosts Auditions For CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF July 10-11

By:

Surfside opens its 53rd season with the American classic drama CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, by Tennessee Williams, directed by Jennifer Wolf. In a plantation house, the members of the family are celebrating the sixty-fifth birthday of "Big Daddy," as they sentimentally dub him. The tone is light, but the mood is somber. For a number of old evils poison the gaiety-sins of the past, greedy hopes for the future, a desperate eagerness not to believe in the truths that surround them. CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF is a delicately wrought exercise in human communication. Tennessee Williams' characters try to escape from the loneliness of their private lives into some form of understanding. The truth invariably terrifies them. That is one thing they cannot face or speak...

On Sunday and Monday, July 10th and 11th at 7:00pm, we will simultaneously hold open auditions and volunteer recruitment for CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. For actors, we need 8 men, 5 women, and 5 children. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. To get you started, the audition pieces and further information about the play will be posted on a link on www.surfsideplayers.com by Saturday, July 2nd (these pieces do not need to be memorized for the audition).

If you want to be involved but aren't sure about performing in front of crowds, we also need a corps of volunteers to construct scenery and costumes on the weekends, and serve as stagehands during the performances! No experience necessary; just meet the director and stage manager and ask to be involved.

Performances are September 9 - 18. Presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. To get to Surfside from the mainland, take US-520 or US-528 East to A1A South, or take Pineda or US-192 East to A1A North. Take A1A into Cocoa Beach, and turn west on Fifth Street South. For more information call (321) 783-3127 or visit our website at www.surfsideplayers.com.
