St. Petersburg Opera's Emerging Artists Present Highlights From COSI FAN TUTTE, 1/9

By: Dec. 19, 2009

St. Petersburg Opera's Emerging Artists, the apprentices who provide a backup in the event the principal cannot perform, will present a program of highlights from the mainstage opera, Mozart's Così fan tutte on January 9, 2010 at Lake Seminole Square.

These apprentices, known as covers, will be joined by more experienced singers who are singing principal roles for the January 16 performance of the full opera. The program on January 9 will include several scenes from the opera, but will be performed without sets and costumes and with a piano accompaniment instead of the full orchestra.

SPO's Emerging Artist program is a training ground for singers who are at the beginning of a professional career and provides stage experience as well as intensive coaching, master classes, and the opportunity to rehearse with the orchestra. Covers learn all the music and staging and are prepared to step in should the principal singer be unable to appear. Luciano Pavarotti made his American debut by stepping in for an indisposed tenor; a cover never knows what might happen.

The highlights program will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Lake Seminole Square, 8333 Seminole Blvd., Seminole. Perri Montané and Brian Kuhl, who will perform the roles of Fiordiligi and Ferrando on Saturday, January 16, will be appearing, along with Wade Thomas, Melissa Misener, Sara Peeples, Sean Kroll, and Philip Dvoracsek.

Tickets are available from the St. Petersburg Opera Box Office at 727-823-2040 and at the door. Tickets are priced at $15 ($10 for seniors and students).
