Ibsen's GHOSTS Closes at Atlantic Beach Experimental Theater, 1/30
By: BWW News Desk
Florida's Atlantic Beach Experimental Theatre will present a new translation of Henrik Ibsen's GHOSTS on January 15, 16, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, and 30. The new translation by Lanford Wilson will be directed by Erik DeCicco.
GHOSTS will feature Deborah Jordan as Helen Alving, Eric DeCicco as Oswald Alving, Lesley Nedwodnik as Regina Engstrand, Richard Sheffler as Reverand Manders, and Scott Peeler as Jakkob Engstrand.
The Arizona Daily Star called the new translation, " a crisp, clear and often lyrical translation." Henrik Ibsen's original script was finished in 1881 and was penned in Danish. The title was "Gengangere," meaning "again walkers." When it was translated into English by William Archer it was titled GHOSTS. The play premiered in Chicago in 1882 and has since been engulfed in a sea of negative publicity, mainly due to the subject matter. GHOSTS is approaching its one hundred and thirtieth birthday, and still engages social questions that remain relevant today: alcoholism, sexual disease, and infidelity. Please note that the Atlantic Beach Experimental Theater does not accept credit cards. Please pay with cash or a check when you arrive at the theatre.
