Mildred Kayden's New Musical SHOOTING STAR Set for Staged Reading on March 10

By: Mar. 02, 2014
Composer/lyricist Mildred Kayden, of Boca Raton, and librettist Ed Bullins have been writing musicals together for forty years. Now they've got a new one called 'SHOOTING STAR,' and it will receive a Staged Reading for one night only on March 10th at Boca's Lynn University, as part of 'Jan McArt's New Play Reading Series.'

Last year this partnership's musical 'STORYVILLE' was a hit in Manhattan at the York Theatre Company, and the year before that Kayden's 'IONESCOPADE' was revived at the York to rave reviews.

'SHOOTING STAR' is a new musical about a young talent who sets out to pursue poetry, but soon finds herself pulled into life among the beautiful people and a commercial show business career via television, nightclubs and Vegas.

For the Lynn University Staged Reading, Wayne Rudisill will direct a cast that includes Nicole Lee, Cerina Anderson, David Berry, Shenise Nunez, Michael Orozco, Kassiopia Ragoonanan and Andy Rogow, with Jon Randy Booth providing musical direction. Jan McArt is in charge of theatre development at Lynn University, where this reading is the third in a series of Staged Readings that will be presented this winter/spring; part of Jan McArt's New Play Reading Series, to develop new plays and musicals by Florida artists. 'SHOOTING STAR' will be presented in Lynn's Wold Performing Arts Center at 7:30 PM on Monday, March 10th, 2014. The next show to be presented in this play reading series is award-winning South Florida playwright Christopher Demos-Brown's new drama 'THE CHILD'S PLAY,' to be directed by Nicole Stodard, on Monday, April 28th.

Tickets for these Staged Readings are $10 each. For more information, call 561-237-9000 or go to www.lynn.edu/tickets.
