Florida Rep Celebrates the Holidays with Something Naughty and Something Nice

Florida Repertory Theatre announced the opening of their first of two holiday offerings this season with It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry.

Brought to magical life as a 1940's live radio broadcast, It's a Wonderful Life is perfect for the whole family, and plays at Florida Rep Nov. 29-Dec. 18, with Discounted Previews on Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1.

It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play is an inventive retelling of the timeless story, and a perfect blend of Christmas cheer and theatrical magic. Audiences will be immersed in the nostalgic charm of the 1940's from the minute they enter the theatre - with ushers in red uniforms, live Foley sound effects and real vintage commercials. The Arcade Theatre will be transformed into a New York City radio studio, and the magic will begin a half hour before curtain time when the theatre will come to life with a pre-show glimpse into the world of the mid-1940's.

Since this play is perfect for the whole family, Florida Repertory Theatre is pleased to offer a $99 Family Special for It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, giving young people and families a unique opportunity to experience the magic of live theatre and the charm of Capra's classic for an unbelievably affordable price. The $99 Family Special for two adults and two children under the age of 18 includes four tickets, four soft drinks and four candy selections from the concession stand - a $196 dollar value for just $99.

"It is an important part of our mission to make theatre accessible to all, and we want to make seeing this holiday classic affordable to young parents and children at the holidays, " said Producing Artistic Director, Robert Cacioppo. "We know times are hard, so we're pleased to offer this very affordable package deal as a way for families to spend time together at the holidays. We hope that seeing a play at Florida Rep becomes a Christmas tradition for everyone."

If you prefer something naughty this holiday season, Florida Rep has just the ting for you. Running Dec. 14 - 31 in the 90-seat Studio Theatre venue, David Sedaris' The Santaland Diaries is being served up as an antidote to the saccharine sweetness of the holiday season. Back for a third helping of yuletide mischief, Crumpet the Elf is on the loose again with another dose of what The Naples Daily News called "a sleighload of snark...a sackful of laughs!" The Santaland Diaries exposes the underside of Santa's workshop when David, a down and out-of-work cynical writer, desperately takes a job as Macy's elf during the holiday crunch. With performances between Christmas and New Year's Eve,

It's a Wonderful Life:A Live Radio Play plays at Florida Rep Nov. 29 through Dec. 18, with previews on Nov. 29 at 8pm, Nov. 30 at 2pm and Dec. 1 at 8pm. Regular performances are Tues. - Sat. at 8pm, with matinees on Wed., Sun., and selected Saturdays at 2pm with a 7pm twilight performance on Sun. Dec. 4. David Sedaris' The Santaland Diaries plays in the Florida Rep Studio Theatre Dec. 14-31, and all seats are $25.

Single tickets are now on sale through the box office at 239-332-488, online at wwwfloridarep.org,  and are $45/$40 and $25/$20 for discounted previews. Subscriptions for the 2011-2012 Season offer the best savings, and packages start as low as $140 for 7 shows.

Florida Repertory Theatre performs in the Historic Arcade Theatre on Bay St. between Jackson & Hendry with ample free parking in the Fort Myers River District.
