Bird Street Players Headline Van Wezel's Final Free Fridayfest 9/16

The Van Wezel hosts this Summer's final FREE FridayFest on the Bay! On September 16th, high energy funk, soul and reggae band BIRD STREET PLAYERS will keep you on your feet all night long and have you hummin' tunes for days!

Formed in the summer of 2002, Bird Street Players feature funk, soul and reggae sounds with driving bass lines, wicked horn solos, a rhythm section that doesn't stop and a front man who's sure to keep you movin'! Originally based in Tampa/St. Petersburg, the Bird Street Players frequent the music scenes of New Orleans, Key West, Orlando and festivals all over the East of the country. They have performed with bands such as The Meters, Galactic, Karl Denson, G. Love, MOFRO, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and more.
Guests are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Local vendors offer food and beverages. Outside food and drink is prohibited, along with coolers and weapons of any kind. FridayFest takes place in rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the festival will move indoors to the Grand Foyer of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. FridayFest is from 5:00 pm-9:00 pm and features Sarasota emcee Cliff Roles.

The presenting sponsors are Sandy and Bill Dietrich and MetroPCS. Additional sponsors are Comcast, Bright House Networks, Budweiser, ABC 7, Pelican Press, The Observer Group, Doctors Hospital, The Van Wezel Foundation, Boar's Head, Waste Management, InterMedia Productions, Cameresi Designs and Business by the Bay, 92.1 My FM. The concert series is paid for in part by Sarasota County Tourist Development Tax Revenues.
