Memphis Proposes National Black Theater Museum

According to Architects Newspaper, the city of Memphis is considering filling the space currently occupied by the Brooks Museum of Art with the National Black Theater Museum. The Brooks Museum recently announced it's consideration of moving from its current home to the proposed Mississippi riverfront cultural center.

The building the museum is currently housed in is in need of renovations costing an estimated $80 million. The proposed National Black Theater Museum would be taking the building in a new direction by focusing on interactive digital installations.

The museum is the first proposal to be presented, however, the city will be hearing other ideas for the Brooks Museum building for the next 90 days.
