Penobscot Theatre Company to Host February Vacation Camp

Penobscot Theatre Company is hosting a theatrical day camp for children ages 4-14 during February School Vacation, February 15-19. Each day, expert and highly energetic teaching artists will lead participants in theme-based dramatic activities. 'February Vacation Camp is one of the most action-packed weeks we have here at Penobscot Theatre Company!' said Amy Roeder, the company's director of education. 'This year, along with perennial favorites, we're thrilled to offer some new activities, like a stage makeup workshop on Design Day!' Rose Horowitz's artistic and educational journey has taken her from lobsters to masked ball gowns to Maine State Music Theatre – a decidedly unique and adventurous path for a high school senior! Horowitz, ranked number one in her class at Topsham's Mt. Ararat High School, is currently working on her Capstone senior project in the Costumes Rental Division of the theatre company, under the mentorship of Rentals Manager Amy Mussman and Rentals Coordinator Travis Grant.

SHEAR MADNESS, the longest running play in the United States, makes it Maine debut this winter presented by Good Theater.  The show opens January 27 and runs for eight weeks through March 20, at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress Street, Portland.  Good Theater is the professional theater company in residence at the St. Lawrence.

Penobscot Theatre Company to Present HARRIET THE SPY

Penobscot Theatre Company is now registering youths aged 4-15 for its upcoming Dramatic Academy production of Harriet the Spy. After-school classes will begin January 5 and run every Tuesday and Thursday until March 17. At the end of the winter session, students will perform Harriet the Spy, fully produced, at the historic Bangor Opera House on March 18, 19 and 20. Registration will close January 6.

This year's two-hour songfest, written and directed by Brian P. Allen, is dedicated to the musicals of the 1930s and with some dozen performers and an excellent musical combo, the evening proves a delightful tribute to the great American songwriters and a cheerful way to ring in the holidays.

These are my personal choices of the best in Maine, grouped by theatre company and show: Because their repertoires are so vastly different, and because both companies produced outstanding seasons, my vote for highest honors goes to both Maine State Music Theatre and the Good Theater.
