The Ogunquit Playhouse Children's Theatre Camps are filling up fast. Register your aspiring thespian today for either the Rising Star Camp for children ages 5 to 8, Center Stage Camp for children ages 8 to 10, the Junior Players Camp for ages 9 to 15 or the Teen Players Camp for ages 13-18. These programs offer theatrical training in a supportive and nurturing environment, and no prior training or skill level is required to participate.

Two of the region's biggest stars will shine in Penobscot Theatre Company's upcoming production of The Last Five Years. Dominick Varney and Brianne Beck will play Jamie and Cathy, two talented, passionate and ambitious young people who come together and fall apart over five pivotal years. He tells their story from the romantic beginning and she from the bitter end, offering alternating perspectives on the passage of love with the passage of time. Written by Jason Robert Brown and directed by Michele Colvin, the production will open in previews at the Bangor Opera House on March 10 and run through March 27.

The USM Department of Theatre and the USM School of Music present the Maine premiere of REEFER MADNESS The Musical, based on a book by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney, with music by Dan Studney and lyrics by Kevin Murphy. The show runs from Friday, March 11 through Sunday, March 20, with 7:30 p.m. performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 5 p.m. performances on Wednesday and Sunday. All performances take place on the Main Stage at Russell Hall, on the USM Gorham campus.

From August 16 - September 4 this summer, two of greater Portland's leading theatre companies will combine forces in an exciting and news-making endeavor that is sure to enrich Maine's arts landscape. Both prestigious Equity companies, Maine State Music Theatre and Portland Stage Company, have announced a co-production of Frank McCourt's runaway hit, The Irish and How They Got That Way, at Portland Stage in the weeks following MSMT's regular summer season in Brunswick and before the opening of Portland Stage's 2016-2017 season in late September. The 1997 play with music chronicles the emotional and spiritual journey of the Irish on both sides of the Atlantic and features melodies, originally arranged by Rusty Magee, that range from traditional Celtic folk tunes to Thomas Moore ballads, George M. Cohen favorites, and the more contemporary sounds of U-2.

Acorn Productions' Naked Shakespeare to Present SEVEN DEADLY SINS

Naked Shakespeare, Acorn Productions' performance series dedicated to presenting the works of the Bard in accessible ways for contemporary audiences, continues their popular series of First Friday performances next month with two performances of 'Seven Deadly Sins,' a series of seven highly-abridged stories from seven different plays, each of which highlights a different vice. Naked Shakespeare Artistic Director abridged the scripts and directs the show, which features a cast of twelve actors, with several company members joined by a few guest artists. Unlike previous First Friday shows, 'Seven Deadly Sins' will be a series of self-contained short pieces, allowing audience members to experience both extremely well-known selections from Othello and The Tempest as well as lesser known plays including Timon of Athens and Coriolanus. Naked Shakespeare's First Friday shows begin a month of Shakespeare performances by various companies designed to coincidence with the visit of a copy of the First Folio at the Portland Public Library. The Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to announce its 2016 lineup that includes two regional premieres, two beloved classics, one international sensation and the return of the smash hit Million Dollar Quartet. The season once again extends longer than ever, opening one week earlier on May 18 and running to November 6, also a week longer than ever, bringing the season to a record 25 weeks of non-stop entertainment with Let it Be: A Celebration of the Music of the Beatles, Anything Goes, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on stage at the Playhouse. The season will stretch to the holidays once again with a show in collaboration with The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to be announced at a later date.
