THE 39 STEPS Closes Hackmatack Playhouse’s 40th Season

By:

When Hackmatack Playhouse Owner/Producer Michael Guptill greeted patrons preceding a show last Wednesday night, he mentioned that the next show, opening Wednesday, August 17 would be Alfred Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps." A woman from the audience shouted out, "It's a great show, everyone must see it!" Guptill was pleased, "Wow, there's an unplanned, spontaneous, compliment. It is a great play!" "I'll be here!" she replied.

In "The 39 Steps," a cast of 4 plays over 140 characters. It ended its New York run earlier this year having won two Tony awards. Hackmatack's version of this Alfred Hitchcock comedy/mystery/thriller includes Dan Clay, Jeff Seabaugh, David Kaye, and Amanda Dane. The original 1935 British thriller film was loosely based on the adventure novel The Thirty-nine Steps by John Buchan.

"The 39 Steps" closes this 40th anniversary season at Hackmatack and runs Wednesday, August 17 through Saturday, September 3.

The community is invited to join Hackmatack Playhouse in celebrating their 40th birthday with an evening of live music, good food and great comedy on Saturday, August 20, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for this fundraising event are $50, and include seats for the evening's performance of "The 39 Steps." Guests are invited to sing along to live music and show tunes from many musicals performed at The Playhouse throughout the years, with entertainment provided by pianist Kathy Fink and former artistic director Steven Dascoulias.

The barn has been a focal point for live, professional theater in the Seacoast area since 1972.

Tickets are now available. Hackmatack Playhouse, in Berwick, continues a tradition of affordable ticket prices with student, senior, and group discounts. Showtimes are Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm with Thursday matinees at 2:00 pm. Regular prices are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, $10 for students and children 20 or younger, and $18 special for Seniors Thursday, either performance. Tickets and more information are available on-line at www.Hackmatack.org or by phone, 207-698-1807.
