Still Current is an evening of work by the internationally acclaimed Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Russell Maliphant who has managed to enthuse Grand Théâtre audiences on his previous visits with works such as PUSH or The Rodin Project. Joining Maliphant on stage for his latest piece – an evening of newly created duets and trios – are Carys Staton, whose energetic elegance and dedication are showcased in the new creations, and Dickson Mbi, famed for his strength and incredible popping style. The evening also features Thomasin Gülgeç, whose fluid agility and grace are demonstrated in the new works, and in the mesmerizing solo Afterlight (Part One), included as part of the programme. There is a diverse physical language across the pieces, integrating qualities and vocabulary from contemporary dance, ballet and martial arts.
As always with Maliphant’s work, the lighting and projection designs are signed by award winning designer Michael Hulls. Musically, the evening includes an eclectic mix of sounds with new compositions by long time collaborators Andy Cowton and Mukul, and a work by Armand Amar, well known for his film music. Costume designs are by Stevie Stewart with animation created by Jan Urbanowski.
