LES OGRES DE BARBACK at Club

Inspired by the lyrics of French chanson and gipsy culture, Les Ogres de Barback have created their own musical style. They're coming to the Rockhal for the very first time on Saturday 13 October to present their uniquely sensitive and incomparably inventive world. A portrait of a band that is always faithful to its home port.

Les Ogres de Barback are four siblings who started their musical adventure in 1994. Out of habit, they create a different show every time they walk onto the stage. After having played in the streets and on all kinds of stages, the Ogres bought circus tents at the beginning of the new millenium to be able to travel wherever they want, often in the company of other bands.

Never directly part of one genre, the Ogres are the ferrymen of a captivating and tolerant world, where tribute is paid to the humble and small and their battered destinies, where stories about family life, failed love, the acerbity of disillusion and the power of hope are told, somewhere between realism and everyday poetry. More dedicated than ever, with the single aim to propose new ideas, many of their lyrics are marked by the worries of involved and responsible citizens.

As usual, they put their back into producing unclassifiable music which embraces all their influences, from the great authors of chanson (Brassens, Renaud, Pierre Perret) to the alternative scene of the eighties (Mano Negra, Les VRP, Bérurier Noir), and eastern European music, such as Emir Kusturica. Eighteen years after their first steps in the streets, and still totally independent, the Ogres have played about 2,000 concerts and sold almost 600,000 records, and are regularly awarded Silver Records and Golden DVDs.

Ask yourself this question: how many bands do you know that have been this inventive, audacious, constant in quality, determined, willing to share, uncompromising and bound to the idea of freedom all over their career? You won't find many.
