During recent conversation regarding the many contributions to the film and theatre world by the late, great Sir Sidney Poitier, veteran stage actor and play director made a point of highlighting Sir Sidney's American birth in Miami, Florida and his upbringing by his parents in the then British Commonwealth nation of The Bahamas which provided him with dual citizenship and put him in good standing with Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II to be knighted for his services to acting by the crown in 1974.
