Zacharias to Lead LA Philharmonic, 10/29-31
Christian Zacharias returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall as conductor and pianist when he leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic and serves as soloist in three performances, Friday and Saturday, October 29 and 30, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 31, at 2 p.m. Acclaimed American mezzo-soprano Susan Graham performs Mozart's "Ch'io mi scordi di te?" K. 505 in all three performances and Mozart's "Parto, parto, ma tu ben mio" from La clemenza di Tito in the Saturday and Sunday performances.
The Friday concert is part of the LA Phil's Casual Fridays series, which features a shorter program, is presented without intermission and encourages audience members to attend in comfortable attire. These concerts also feature a free TalkBack discussion with musicians held on stage after the performance and a chance to mingle with members of the orchestra in the Concert Hall Café.
Christian Zacharias is one of the most distinguished pianists of his generation. He made his conducting debut with Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in 1992 and his U.S. conducting debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2000.
Susan Graham, seen around the world on the telecast of Sen. Edward Kennedy's funeral service, made her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut in November, 2009 in an LA Phil Baroque Variations concert singing Dido in an all-Purcell program.
Upbeat Live pre-concert events take place in Walt Disney Concert Hall's BP Hall one hour prior to each concert, and are free to all ticket holders. Lucinda Carver, pianist and conductor, hosts.
