The Porters' TAMING Opens One Week From Saturday!
![]()
The Porters of Hellsgate Theatre Company presents William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," directed by Rose Fliegel and Alicia Patterson, opening Saturday, April 20th!
The production features gender-swapped roles, giving female stories a platform traditionally assigned to men. "In this way, the focus becomes less about masculine versus feminine and more about the imposed imbalance of power." Say directors Fliegel and Patterson. "We want to directly confront these issues and start a discussion by engaging the audience with a comedic show which portrays how power politics affect the dynamics of a dysfunctional love story."
Lauren Jean Lee and Sean Faye will take on the lead roles of Petruchio and Katherine; filling out the ensemble are Dawn Alden, Michael Bigley, Will Block, Jono Eiland, Kate Faye, Whitton Frank, Julie Lanctot, Evan Lipkin, Caitlin McColl, Nick Neidorf, Jill Penfold, Jennifer Lee Weaver, and Lauren Zbylski.
Frequent Porters collaborators Rose Fliegel and Alicia Patterson assume the director's chair.
"The Taming of the Shrew" will be the Porters' twenty-eighth production along the road to completing Shakespeare's canon.
Opening Saturday, April 20th, running Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm, closing May 19th. NOTE: Performances Sunday April 21st and Sunday May 12th will occur at 7pm.
Presented at The Whitmore-Lindley Theatre Center, 11006 W Magnolia Blvd, North Hollywood, CA, 91601.
