The Clown School & Second City Hollywood Welcome New Instructor Today

By:
Beginning today, February 7, 2015, The Clown School and Second City Hollywood will be kicking off a second Clowning Level 1 class at Second City's training center in Hollywood. The incredible success of the first class, taught in September of last year, has lead the companies to collaborate on a second Level 1 offering, this time welcoming renowned Los Angeles clown performer and instructor Courtney Cunningham to join TCS instructor Zachary Steel.

Ms. Cunningham has a degree in classical theatre from the American International University in London, England and is a graduate of the Dell 'Arte School of Physical theatre, where she first studied clown with master teacher Sue Morrison. Her award-winning performances as self-created character Poofy Du Vey have landed in cabarets, variety shows and Fringe Festivals in New York, Los Angeles and London. In LA, Courtney has worked as a director, producer and casting director.

The class is aimed at opening up the honest and physical world of the clown, inviting its participants to explore and expose the inner capacity to be creative via one's most ridiculous self. Says Mr. Steel of the class, "It's been a pleasure to team up with one of the most renowned improv schools in North America [Second City Hollywood]. There is more than a little crossover between improv and clown and it is great to have a school in LA where students can explore both." The Clown School's Artistic Director David Bridel explains, "We base our work in the discipline of clown because we believe that clowning embraces and celebrates the totality of the human experience and offers unparalleled freedom in art. We love to play!"

Second City specializes in sketch comedy and improv and has been delighting audiences for over 50 years. In addition to the training center in Hollywood, they have resident companies in Chicago and Toronto, host National Touring Companies, and have casts on NCL cruises. Their comedy training centers in Chicago, Toronto, and Hollywood have launched the careers of countless stars of stage and screen.

The Clowning Level 1 class meets once a week for four hours, running Saturday February 7 through Saturday March 21, 2015 from 12pm-4pm. Classes will be held at Second City's training center in Hollywood and the fee is $375. Students must be 18 or older to participate in the class. To register, visit the Second City website at http://bit.ly/TCS2C2. The last day for internet registration is February 7, 2015. For more information on registration email The Clown School at administrator@theclownschool.com.

The Clown School, through the work of Artistic Director David Bridel, offers the highest quality of clown training to actors, performers, comedians, and participants from all walks of life, including doctors, teachers, healers, film-makers, and students. The School has successfully "graduated" legions of new clowns, including many members of the multi-award-winning company Four Clowns, and won widespread acclaim for its classes.

Based in Los Angeles, The Clown School has traveled to China, Australia, Turkey and Brazil to spread the gospel of clowning, forming connections and partnerships with ground breaking companies and organizations around the world. For more information, visit www.theclownschool.com.
