The Antaeus Company Extends KING LEAR Through 8/15

By:

Beginning July 29, The Antaeus Company will add Thursday night performances for its fully double-cast production of King Lear, and the run will extend through August 15.

King Lear is directed by Bart DeLorenzo and features two complete, alternating casts: "The Madmen" headed by three-time Tony nominee Harry Groener in the title role, and "The Fools" headed by renowned Shakespeare scholar and actor Dakin Matthews.

The production is receiving across-the-board raves from audiences and critics alike. Los Angeles Times theater critic Charles McNulty writes, "You're not likely to see such high-caliber thespians perform this prodigious masterpiece... it's a pleasure to see such distinguished veterans as Matthews and Groener assume the Lear challenge." Back Stage reviewer Dany Margolies says, "To see this production's cast filled with L.A.'s finest is a gift not to be missed. CRITIC'S PICK." In the LA Weekly, Steven Leigh Morris calls King Lear "an unusually luminous, double-cast production. Not only is the play a wonder, you can actually hear it, with lucidity and intelligence. DeLorenzo's staging just gets better as it rolls along. GO!"

Performances of King Lear continue on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 2:30 pm & 7:30 pm through August 15. There is no Thursday night performance on July 22. Tickets range from $30.00 - $34.00. In order to accommodate additional performances for King Lear, some changes have been made to the previously announced schedule for ClassicsFest 2010; please go to the website to view changes. The Antaeus Company's interim home is located in Deaf West Theatre, 5112 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601 (in the NoHo Arts District).
