The First Nudie Musical, the film, came out in 1976 to much critical acclaim. It became an instant cult film and it was one of the first films to hit cable TV, where it was hugely successful for many years. Unlike most of the recent film to stage adaptations, Nudie started life as a film musical, so adapting it for the stage seemed to be a natural.

The First Nudie Musical has a book by Bruce Kimmel and David Wechter, and music and lyrics by Bruce Kimmel (Kimmel wrote, co-directed, and starred in the film, along with Cindy Williams, Stephen Nathan, and Diana Canova). In addition to the songs from the film, there are eleven new numbers.

The staged reading will be directed by Bruce Kimmel, with choreography by Adam Cates. Cason Murphy is producing. Casting will be announced shortly. This free two-night only event will take place on June 15 and 16 at 7:30 at the NoHo Arts Center.

Early reservations are advised (seating is limited) and can be made by e-mailing nudiemusical@gmail.com or calling 323 599-7343.
