Santa Monica Playhouse Physical Theatre to Host World Premiere of RED SAND

Santa Monica Playhouse Physical Theatre is proud to present the world premiere of Red Sand. From the director of DREMPELS and Musical Chairs, this innovative and unusual piece of movement theatre, faces the various facets of loss and hope, on a personal and global level, with heart, humor and a touch of absurdity. Red Sand plays Friday evenings at 8pm through November 17, 2017.

Presented through a series of revolving stories, Red Sand is at once non-linear, chaotic, cathartic, and undeniably relatable. Using an evocative dreamscape of sights, sounds, and sensuality, this new piece of physical theatre journeys through the capricious stages of loss and hope, walking on the edge of the thin line between the sensations, real or imaginary, true or false, of what frees and fetters us.

Original concept and direction by Playhouse Associate Director Serena Dolinsky, devised and performed by an international company: Ali Cesur (Turkish actor/dancer; Triangles, Jacques and His Master), Alexander Karavay (Moldovan-born actor who has trained with Steppenwolf West and Stella Adler Art Of Acting Studio; Angels in America), Brenda Nascimento (American-Angolan actor; The Bereaved, Nadia on the List), Diana Shield (born and raised in Chicago of Guatemalan and Mexican ancestry; Real Women Have Curves, Anarchy Chiapas), Jordann Zbylski (graduate of the USC School of Dramatic Arts; Animal Farm, Musical Chairs), and Dolinsky.

Serena Dolinsky (director) has directed and performed internationally in England, Ireland, the Netherlands and Japan. Her work has been called "quirky, inventively staged" (LA TIMES); "riotously takes the audience on a surreal and wildly manic and visual journey ... not soon to be forgotten" (TOLUCAN TIMES). "The intricate choreography inspired admiration," says LA Theatre Review, "and was articulated with agility and comedic panache." As Associate Director and member of Actors' Repertory Theatre with Santa Monica Playhouse, she has brought numerous World Premieres to the Los Angeles stage, including recent productions Musical Chairs, DREMPELS, Love in Bloom, Audition: The Musical, and Arnold Schulman's Sleeping Ugly.
