Road Theatre Company Presents World Premiere of THE RESCUED THEROAD THEATRE COMPANY and Taylor Gilbert, Founder/Artistic Director together with Sam Anderson, Artistic Director, present the first show of its 2018-2019 season, the world premiere of THE RESCUED, written by Julie Marie Myatt (Birder,John is a father) and directed by Marya Mazor.

THE RESCUED will preview on Tuesday, September 18 at 8pm; Wednesday, September 19 at 8pm & Thursday, September 20 at 8pm and will open on Friday, September 21 at 8pm and run through Sunday, November 11 at the Road Theatre on Magnolia, located in The NoHo Senior Arts Colony, 10747 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood.

What happens to a human after being abused, forgotten, and living in a cage for years? Do we find the same compassion for them, that we might find for rescue animals? Follow six souls who spend the day singing, sleeping, and wrestling their past with the present: how to trust, how to love and be loved, and how to finally feel free.

Julie Marie Myatt (Playwright) Julie Marie Myatt's plays Birder and John is a father premiered in repertory at The Road in 2016. fellowship: a play for volunteers was created and performed with Cornerstone Theatre Company as part of their Hunger Cycle. The Happy Ones premiered at South Coast Repertory, and won the LA Drama Critic Circle's Ted Schmitt Award for Outstanding New Play. Her play Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter premiered at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and the Kennedy Center as part of the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays. Her play Someday, premiered as part of Cornerstone Theater's Justice Cycle. Her play My Wandering Boypremiered at South Coast Repertory in the 2007, was part of Pacific Playwrights Festival, and was also produced in New York as part of the 2007 Summer Play Festival. Boats On A River premiered at the Guthrie Theater, was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, and was recorded for the LA Theatre works radio play series, "The Play's The Thing".

Her ten-minute play, Mr. and Mrs. premiered at the 2007 Humana Festival. Her play The Sex Habits of American Women was produced by the Guthrie Theater, among others, and premiered at the Magic Theatre. Her work has been developed or seen at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Seattle Rep, Cherry Lane, A.S.K. Theatre Projects, LAByrinth Theater Company, Denver Center Theatre Company, ACT Seattle, among others. She received a Walt Disney Studios Screenwriting Fellowship, a Jerome Fellowship at the Playwrights' Center, a McKnight Advancement Grant, and a Mark Taper Forum Fadiman Award. She is an Alumni of New Dramatists, was the Mellon Playwright in Residence at South Coast Repertory 2013-2016, and now teaches playwriting at Northwestern University.

MARYA MAZOR (Director) is an award-winning and critically acclaimed theatre director. She recently directed Donald Margulies' The Model Apartmentfor The Geffen Playhouse, Tribesat The Chance Theater (OC Register Best Play 2017) and Pure Confidencefor Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble. Other recent productions include Ivy & Beanat South Coast Rep, Out of Our Father's Housefor the Edinburgh Fringe, That Pretty Pretty... or the Rape Playat Son of Semele, Mad Forestat the Open Fist, The English Brideat the Road, and The Goat (LA Times Critic's Pick) as well as Aladdinfor Disney Cruise Lines. Her short flm, "The Winged Man," written by Oscar nominee Jose Rivera, was part of AFI's Directing Workshop for Women and played festivals worldwide. She is developing a first feature flm, "MOXIE."

Marya spent six years as a show director for Disney. She also has directed at The Long Wharf, Pasadena Playhouse, New York Stage & Film, Nada, Dixon Place, Main Street Theatre, Circle X, The Boston Court, and Berkeley Repertory Theatre, among others. Marya founded Voice & Vision theater in New York, which she ran for 10 years. She was an NEA/TCG Directing Fellow and holds an M.F.A. from Yale. She has taught at Pepperdine, UCLA, The New School, Fordham and other colleges.

The cast of THE RESCUED will feature (in alphabetical order): Leandro Cano, J.D. Hall, Meeghan Holaway, Rahul Rai, Kacie Rogers and Patrick Rieger.

The Design Team for THE RESCUED is as follows: Set Design by Sarah B. Brown; Lighting Design by Derrick McDaniel; Sound Design by David B. Marling; Costume Design by Mary Jane Miller; Properties Design by Megan Moran. The Production Stage Manager is Maurie Gonzalez. THE RESCUED is produced by Amy Stoch and Katie Witkowski.

THE RESCUED will preview on Tuesday, September 18; Wednesday, September 19; & Thursday, September 20 at 8pm and will open on Friday, September 21 at 8pm and run through Sunday, November 11at 2pm at the Road Theatre on Magnolia, located in The NoHo Senior Arts Colony, 10747 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood. Performances are Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm.
