Renee Taylor to Bring MY LIFE ON A DIET to The Grove Theatre, 3/7
My Life on a Diet opens at The Grove Theatre on Friday, March 7th. Starring Hollywood legend Renee Taylor, and based on the book, My Life On A Diet: Confessions Of A Hollywood Diet Junkie, written by Ms. Taylor, it takes the audience on a trip through her 60+ year career from movies, Broadway, & her iconic role as Sylvia, Fran Drescher's over bearing, food loving mother on the hit TV series, The Nanny, The Tonight Show, and as Ted Mosby's neighbor, Mrs. Matsen, on How I Met Your Mother. Throughout this trip, her perseverance and dieting, as well as her 47 year marriage to actor/director Joe Bologna, are the true constants in her life.
Renee's one woman show is told through the insane, hilarious and true diets she was on and the dieting advice she got from assorted movie stars, like Cary Grant, Joan Crawford, Marlon Brando, Morgan Fairchild and Marilyn Monroe, whose advice she sought about what to eat to make her as slim and/or as famous as they were - often with hysterical consequences. This show examines how Renee's ability to laugh at situations, at others, and at herself, got her through the rough times of her life. In a recent interview Ms. Taylor stated, "Marilyn Monroe ate grapes, Grace Kelly ate yogurt. Most people remember what famous people wore when they met; I remember what they ate."
Directed by her husband Joseph Bologna.
My Life on a Diet runs through March 9th, with performances Friday and Saturday evening at 7:29 pm and Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. Tickets are $30 - 40 with senior, student and group discounts and can be purchased by calling (909) 920-4343, or by visiting The Grove box office or website at http://www.grovetheatre.com.
