Pianist Kariné Poghosyan to Tour California

Armenian-American pianist Kariné Poghosyan kicks off her spring California tour on Thursday, April 12th at 7pm with a solo recital showcasing the music of Aram Khachaturian at the Brand Library and Art Center in Glendale. Ms. Poghosyan, one of the world's foremost interpreters of Khachaturian's music, will be performing selections from her critically acclaimed debut release, Khachaturian Original Piano Works and Ballet Transcriptions on the Naxos Grand Piano label, featuring many of the composer's rarely heard and relatively neglected works for piano. The CD includes arrangements of excerpts from two of Khachaturian's most popular works - his ballet Spartacus, and Masquerade, from 1941. Also featured are his 1961 Piano Sonata as well as two works from the composer's early years - the technically demanding Toccata and Poem. Presented by Brand Associates Music Series.

Next up, the Beverly Hills National Auditions Winner will bring her Transformations program, recently premiered at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, to Encinitas Library for the Music by the Sea Concert Series on Friday, April 13th at 7:30pm; to The Interludes Series at First Lutheran Church & School - Torrance on Saturday, April 14th at 3pm; and to the Music in the Mansion's Series at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills on Sunday, April 15th at 2pm. This solo piano recital inspired by musical and personal "transformations" features transcriptions for solo piano by Beethoven, Liszt, Khachaturian and Stravinsky, opening with Liszt's virtuosic transcription of Beethoven's beloved Symphony No. 5. The program will conclude with imaginative transcriptions of ballet music, including Matthew Cameron's arrangement of the Adagio from Aram Khachaturian's Spartacus and Guido Agosti's arrangement of Stravinsky's Firebird.
