Photo Flash: Passionate Play 33 VARIATIONS Takes Off in LA

Actors Co-op (Ovation Award-Winner 2014 Best Intimate Theatre Musical for 110 in the Shade) presents the third show in its celebratory 25th Silver Anniversary season with the Los Angeles intimate theatre premiere of 33 VARIATIONS by Moisés Kaufman, choreography by Michelle Parrish and directed by Thomas James O'Leary (Next to Normal). 33 VARIATIONS will preview on Thursday, February 9 at 8pm and will open on Friday, February 10 at 8pm and run through Sunday, March 19 at the Actors Co-op David Schall Theatre, 1760 N. Gower St. (on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood) in Hollywood.

A mother coming to terms with her daughter. A composer coming to terms with his genius. And, even though they're separated by 200 years, these two people share an obsession that might, even just for a moment, make time stand still. Drama, memory and music combine to transport you from present-day New York to 19th-century Austria, in this extraordinary Tony-nominated play about passion, parenthood and the moments of beauty that can transform a life.

MOISÉS KAUFMAN (Playwright) is a Tony and Emmy nominated director and playwright. His play 33 Variations, starring Jane Fonda, was nominated for five Tony awards (including one for Ms. Fonda). Previous to that, Mr. Kaufman directed the Pulitzer and Tony award-winning play I Am My Own Wife, earning him an Obie award for his direction as well as Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Lucille Lortel nominations. His plays Gross Indecency: The Three Trials Of Oscar Wilde and The Laramie Project have been among the most performed plays in America over the last decade. Mr. Kaufman also directed the film adaptation of "The Laramie Project" for HBO, which was the opening night selection at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival and won the National Board of Review Award, the Humanitas Prize, and a Special Mention for Best First Film at the Berlin Film Festival. The film also earned Mr. Kaufman two Emmy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Writer. He is the Artistic Director of Tectonic Theater Project and a Guggenheim Fellow in Playwriting. Other credits include Bengal Tiger At The Baghdad Zoo (Mark Taper Forum); Macbeth with Liev Schreiber (Public Theater); This Is How It Goes (Donmar Warehouse); One Arm by Tennessee Williams (Steppenwolf Theater Company); Master Class with Rita Moreno (Berkeley Repertory Theater); and Lady Windermere's Fan (Williamstown Theater Festival).

THOMAS JAMES O'LEARY (Director) most recently directed Next To Normal at Pico Playhouse. Other LA-area directing credits include Flim Flam: Houdini And The Hereafter by Gene Franklin Smith (Malibu Playhouse), Dusty De Los Santos and The Debut Of Georgia (by Boni B. Alvarez, Skylight Theatre and the Blank Theatre), Reserve Champion and A Horse With A View by Christopher Piehle (Hollywood Fringe Festival), and The Escape Artist's Children by Steve Harper (Celebration Theatre). As an actor, Thomas is best known for his three-year run as the Phantom in The Phantom Of The Opera on Broadway (over 1,000 performances). Other acting credits include the original cast of Miss Saigon (Broadway), LES MISERABLES (First National), Chess (First National), Mason Marzac in Take Me Out (LA Weekly Award, Celebration Theatre) You Never Can Tell (Yale Rep), Last Sunday In June (by Jonathan Tolins, Century Center), and Travels With My Aunt (Colony Theatre).

Thomas is also on the faculty of AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Hollywood, where he has directed Thoroughly Modern Millie, Nine, How To Succeed In Business...,and Sunday In The Park With George. Thomas is an Associate Member of SDC.

The Cast of 33 VARIATIONS will feature John Allee, Greyson Chadwick, Bruce Ladd, Nan McNamara, Brandon Parrish, Stephen Rockwell and Treva Tegtmeier.

33 VARIATIONS has assembled an award-winning design team. Set Design is by Nicholas Acciani. Lighting Design is by Andrew Schmedake. Costume Design is by Vicki Conrad. Sound Design is by David B. Marling. Properties Design is by Lori Berg. Pianist is Dylan Price. Dialect Coach is E.K. Dagenfield. The Stage Manager is Shawna Voragen. 33 VARIATIONS is produced by Thomas Chavira.

33 VARIATIONS will preview on Thursday, February 9 at 8pm and will open on Friday, February 10 at 8pm and run through Sunday, March 19 at the Actors Co-op David Schall Theatre, 1760 N. Gower St. (on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood) in Hollywood.

Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:30pm (with Saturday Matinees scheduled for Saturday, February 18 and March 18 at 2:30pm).

Ticket prices are $30.00 for all Performances. Seniors (60 and over) - $25 and Students - $20.00 - with Student Rush Tickets available at Friday performances (excluding opening nights) on a first-come, first-serve basis subject to availability. Rush tickets are priced at 1/2 off regular adult tickets price. Tickets may only be purchased 45 minutes prior to curtain at the box office window. Valid Student ID must be shown. One ticket per ID.
