Orlando Bloom, Matthew Rhys, et al. Set for Shakespeare Concert with LA Philharmonic, Through 3/13

By:

Actors Orlando Bloom, Malcolm McDowell and Matthew Rhys, and director Kate Burton have been confirmed to participate in the LA Phil all-Tchaikovsky program led by Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13, at 2 p.m. The Sunday concert is the second LA Phil LIVE performance, and will be simulcast live in theaters across the country, at 2 p.m. Pacific/5 p.m. Eastern. The all-Tchaikovsky concert program features the composer's three Fantasy-Overtures inspired by Shakespeare plays - Hamlet, The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet. Preceding each of these powerful symphonic poems are selections from the Bard's immortal works performed by the cast of actors (Orlando Bloom as Romeo, Malcolm McDowell as Prospero, and Matthew Rhys as Hamlet). Kate Burton, the prolific Tony-nominated stage and screen actress and daughter of the late Richard Burton, directs this all-star cast and also serves as host for the LA Phil LIVE broadcast.

The in-theater broadcasts are produced as a result of collaboration between the LA Phil and NCM Fathom, a division of National CineMedia (NCM), and Cineplex Entertainment.

LA Phil LIVE with Gustavo Dudamel from Walt Disney Concert Hall is an immersive sight and sound experience, featuring full concert performances with the LA Phil and Dudamel, transmitted live from the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall. The concert is seen in more than 450 theaters across the U.S. and Canada and the screening also includes behind-the-scenes interviews with Dudamel, the LA Phil musicians, rehearsal footage and a live post-concert Q&A with Dudamel.

Complete Program:

o TCHAIKOVSKY, Hamlet Fantasy Overture
o TCAHIKOVSKY, The Tempest Fantasy Overture
o TCHAIKOVSKY, Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture

The March 13 concert is the second of three programs to be simulcast in theaters this season. The remaining concert is an all-Brahms program (June 5, 2011, 2 p.m. Pacific/5 p.m. Eastern).

Tickets for LA Phil LIVE in-theater events are available now at participating theater box offices and online at www.fathomevents.com (U.S.) and www.cineplex.com (Canada).
