Open Fist Presents LA Premiere of MACHINAL, Opening 10/14
The Open Fist Theatre Company today announced the fourth production of its 2011 Season, the Los Angeles premiere of MACHINAL, written by Sophie Treadwell and directed by Barbara Schofield.
MACHINAL will preview on Friday, October 7 & Saturday, October 8 at 8pm; Sunday, October 9 at 2pm and will open on Friday, October 14 at 8pm and run through Saturday, November 20 at the Open Fist Theatre, 6209 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.
One of the great masterpieces of the American Theatre, Sophie Treadwell's MACHINAL explores with frightening intensity the America of the 1920's-and the nightmare nexus of capitalism, sexism, and violence in an increasingly mechanized and dehumanizing society.
Inspired by the "crime of the century"-the 1927 murder trial of Ruth Snyder and Judd Grey-the play burst upon the stage with incandescent originality-and remains today as fresh and fearsome a look at modern life as it was then. Open Fist is proud to present the Los Angeles premiere of this stunning and unforgettable work, by one of the country's most important playwrights.
