Musical Theatre West is proud to announce the world premiere of Roger Bean's groovy new musical SUMMER OF LOVE at the beautiful 1,070-seat Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach. SUMMER OF LOVE previews April 1 and runs April 2 through April 17, 2011. The show's creator, Roger Bean, directs Musical Theatre West's production of SUMMER OF LOVE.

SUMMER OF LOVE is set in the late 1960s as the countercultural revolution exploded in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco with riotous politics, creative expression, and amazing music. Holly, a young runaway bride arrives on the scene, yearning to experience her own summer of love amid the hippies and dropouts populating the Golden Gate Park, and learns to "make her own kind of music!" This new show features music from some of the most impressionable artists of the love generation: The Mamas and the Papas, The Turtles, Sly & The Family Stone, Jefferson Airplane, Blood, Sweat & Tears and many more. You'll love this flower-power, feel-good, musical experience. It's sure to be a real trip.

Roger Bean (Writer/Director) created and directed the Off-Broadway production of "The Marvelous Wonderettes," and the long-running Los Angeles production received the 2007 Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best Musical. MR. Bean received Los Angeles Ovation Award nominations for Best Director of a Musical for the Los Angeles productions of "Winter Wonderettes" and "The Marvelous Wonderettes." MR. Bean also created "The Andrews Brothers," which has played in numerous theaters throughout Southern California after a critically-acclaimed west coast debut at Musical Theatre West. MR. Bean's recent long-running doo-wop hit "Life Could Be A Dream" received the 2010 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Production, the LA Weekly Theatre Award for Musical of the Year, and the 2010 Backstage Garland Award for Outstanding Production of the Year.

SUMMER OF LOVE will have its world premiere at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach, CA on April 1-17, 2011. This original production will be directed by the show's creator, Roger Bean. SUMMER OF LOVE's musical director/arranger is Michael Borth, choreography by Lee Martino and musical direction by Michael Paternostro.
