Two familiar faces, conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, return to Walt Disney Concert Hall to join the Los Angeles Philharmonic in four performances, Thursday, January 5, at 8 pm; Friday, January 6, at 11 am; Saturday, January 7, at 8 pm; and Sunday, January 8, at 2 pm. Thibaudet performs Liszt’s Second Piano Concerto, in a program that also includes Dvo?ák’s Hussite Overture and Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3, “Organ.”

Music Director of the Fort Worth Symphony and Founder and Artistic Director of Caminos del Inka, Inc., Peruvian-born Miguel Harth-Bedoya is one of the most exciting and sought-after conductors on the international scene. Under his leadership, the artistic level of the Fort Worth Symphony and its contribution to the cultural life of the community have grown enormously. In the words of the Dallas Morning News, “The transformation of the FWSO under Music Director Miguel Harth-Bedoya continues to amaze.” In addition to a highly acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut in 2008, the orchestra has recorded an all-Tchaikovsky CD, a world-premiere bilingual recording of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf featuring narrations in Spanish and English with Michael York, Sentimiento Latino with tenor Juan Diego Flórez, and INTI, a recording of three centuries of Peruvian music. Mr. Harth-Bedoya has also recorded Traditions and Transformations: Sounds of Silk Road Chicago with the Chicago Symphony and Yo-Yo Ma, which was nominated for Grammy awards in two categories in 2009, and a recording of music by Osvaldo Golijov with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León and pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque, on the Deutsche Grammophon label.

Jean-Yves Thibaudet is one of the most poetic and emotionally aware pianists alive today. His ability to craft intensely passionate experiences on the piano has led him to become not only a respected performer, but also an in-demand soloist for film scores. Thibaudet was featured on the Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning scores of Universal Pictures' Atonement and the Oscar-nominated Pride and Prejudice. Currently, Thibaudet can be heard on the score of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock and directed by Stephen Daldry. At the end of 2011, Thibaudet appeared with the New York Philharmonic for its PBS-televised New Year’s Eve Gala, performing Gerswin’s Concerto in F and Rhapsody in Blue, works he recorded on his most recent album, Gershwin, for Decca. Called “one of the best pianists of our time” (New York Sun), Jean-Yves Thibaudet has the rare ability to combine musical sensibilities with dazzling technical prowess. His talent at coaxing subtle and surprising colors and textures from even old favorites has led The New York Times to exclaim, “every note he fashions is a pearl…the joy, brilliance and musicality of his performance could not be missed.” After more than 30 years of performing around the world, and over 40 recorded albums, Thibaudet’s depth, style, and natural charisma have made him one of the most sought-after soloists by today’s foremost orchestras, conductors and festivals.

Upbeat Live pre-concert events take place in Walt Disney Concert Hall’s auditorium one hour and 15 minutes prior to the Friday concert and in BP Hall one hour prior to the Thursday, Saturday and Sunday concerts, and are free to all ticket holders. Alan Chapman, KUSC-FM radio host, composer-lyricist and pianist, hosts.
