The award-winning Musical Theatre Guild, a company of professional performers who present concert-staged readings of seldom seen musicals, will open its 15th season with a 40th Anniversary staging of John Kander and Fred Ebb's charming 70, GIRLS, 70. The opening performance will take place on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 7:30 PM at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale. A second, and final, performance will occur on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza's Scherr Forum.

Based on the play BREATH OF SPRING by Peter Cook, 70, GIRLS, 70 is ostensibly about the residents of a senior citizens' hotel who become shoplifters to buy the building before it is sold to developers. What it really is about is staying alive and enjoying every minute. First produced in 1971 and playing just 35 performances, the show functions both as a frame to hold Kander & Ebb's winning honky-tonk vaudeville score and as a valentine to showbiz troupers.

70, GIRLS, 70 will star MTG members Chuck Bergman, Christopher Callen, Helen Geller, Pamela Hamill, David Holmes, S. Marc Jordan, Paul Keith, Marsha Kramer, Michael Shepperd and Susan Watson with guest artists Sylvia MacCalla, Erik McEwen, Barbara Minkus and Steven Smith. The musical will be directed by John Bowab, musical direction by Steven Smith, conducted by Tom Greip, tap choreography by Jeffrey Polk with Mr. Polk and Maura M. Knowles serving as MTG production coordinators.
