MISS COCO PERU: THERE COMES A TIME Plays the Renburg Theatre, 5/13-22

By:

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center proudly announces the return of the celebrated monologist/singer/actor-actress Miss Coco Peru in an all-new, cabaret-style evening of stories, songs, lots of laughs, and a surprise or two! There Comes a Time is written and performed by the multiple-award winner Clinton Leupp (aka Miss Coco). The show opens Friday, May 13, at the Center's Renberg Theatre, and will run through Sunday, May 22. Net proceeds benefit the free and low-cost services provided by the Center.

In the two years since Miss Coco staged her three-show tour de force, Retro Coco, at the Renberg, she has been one busy drag queen: She received the Center's 2009 Board of Directors  Award for exceptional service to our community; she welcomed the great Lily Tomlin to the Renberg for a dazzling Conversation With Coco; she made her dramatic acting debut on ABC's Detroit 1-8-7; she toured across the U.S. and abroad; and she completed filming Girls Will Be Girls 2012, the hotly anticipated sequel to 2003's runaway cult classic Girls Will Be Girls.

Legions of Coco-philes know that Miss Peru's shows fearlessly explore all facets of human nature, expertly turning darkness into illumination. This time, says Leupp, "I've decided to do something a little different. I wanted to try something a bit lighter, a night of pure fun with Coco."

Thus, Coco Peru in: There Comes a Time. Audiences can look forward to reports on her appearance at her friend Bea Arthur's memorial at New York's Majestic Theatre ("my Broadway debut!"), her turn as the original "Angel Schunard" in the "backer's audition" of Rent, and those wryly pointed observations of life that only Miss Coco Peru can deliver.
