Little Fish Theatre to Open AND THE STONES WILL CRY OUT, 8/7

Little Fish Theatre today announced the opening of quick­witted drama AND THE STONES WILL CRY OUT, an exciting original work by Little Fish company member David Graham. Set in a 19th Century German University, this play asks the question, "Is it more foolish to engage in blind pride and ambition or to believe it is within your duty and capacity to correct such a person? Which is the greater hubris?"

After the discovery of an unusual fossil, two intellectuals debate whether it is a hoax or simply an undiscovered piece of history. As these two imposing men find themselves in an ever­escalating philosophical debate, their certainty and dogmatism begins to spiral out of control. Sitting in the middle, as arbiter, is their more sensible but vastly underestimated colleague, who finds himself unable to bridle the energy that results when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

"I thought the play to be a perfect vehicle to put forth some ideas concerning faith, a belief in God, the duties of science, and the value of skepticism," says writer David Graham about his intentions for the play. "All too often, people of faith reject science when it says something they disagree with; and science has concluded that faith is a ridiculous notion that has no business in the modern world. I hope the play causes people to listen and have a conversation, regardless of which side of the argument they feel they are on."

This show will feature several award-winning Little Fish Company regulars including Jim Rice, who has been frequently featured in Little Fish productions, most recently to great acclaim as Helmuth Rode in Taking Sides. He is also a highly successful director for Little Fish (Private Lives, The Doll, Pick of the Vine). Long time company member Don Schlossman, whose work has been praised in past years in The Weir, Pick of the Vine and Bach at Leipzig; and Rodney Rincon, who is well known for his work in Oh, Baby, Pick of the Vine and Bus Stop, complete the cast.

It is a creative and engrossing play that exemplifies everything Little Fish Theatre has to offer." Coltrin has directed multiple successful productions at Little Fish (T?aking Sides, The Weir, Bach at Leipzig) and just recently opened T HE LAST FIVE YEARS with the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, California.

AND THE STONES WILL CRY OUT will open Friday, August 7, and run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through September 5, 2015. A Sunday matinee is scheduled for 2pm on August 30, after which the creative team will be available for 10 to 15 minutes for a post-show discussion with the audience.
