La Mirada Presents MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS, Begins 11/6

La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and McCoy Rigby Entertainment in association with the Laguna Playhouse are proud to present the second production of La Mirada Theatre's 2009-2010 season of shows, the critically-acclaimed co-production with The Laguna Playhouse of MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS, written by Ron Hutchinson and directed by Andrew Barnicle. MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS will begin performances on Friday, November 6 (with a press opening on Saturday, November 7) and will run through Sunday, November 22 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Boulevard in La Mirada.

Famed film producer David O. Selznick decides to stop the filming of Gone with the Wind three weeks into production because he wants a rewrite of the unwieldy script. He hires Ben Hecht to do the job in only five days. Only one problem: Hecht has never read the novel! So, Selznick summons Hecht and Gone With the Wind director Victor Fleming to his office and locks the door. Subsisting on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men spend five days crafting a screenplay for what will become one of the most successful films of all time.

Based on a true story, this wildly funny and engaging tale illuminates the behind the scenes business of movie-making during the golden age of Hollywood.

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM

Ron Hutchinson (Playwright) is the author of Rat in the Skull, premiere at Royal Court Theatre 1984, Chicago's Wisdom Bridge Theatre, The Public Theater, Mark Taper Forum and revival, Duke of York's Theatre 1995; an adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's Flight at the National Theatre 1997; Burning Issues, Hampstead Theatre Club 1999; Beau!, Theatre Royal, Bath national tour and Haymarket, Leicester Square 2001; Lags, national tours 2002-03; Believers, for Playbox Young People's Theatre, 2003; Head/Case, Royal Shakespeare Company 2004; Moonlight and Magnolias, Goodman Theatre, Chicago 2004 and Manhattan Theatre Club 2005. Mr. Hutchinson lives in Los Angeles where he is a writer/producer for features and television. Winner of an Emmy for Murderers Among Us: The Simon Wiesenthal Story, starring Ben Kingsley. Other TV and film writing credits include The Josephine Baker Story (1991), The Burning Season (1994), The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996)Traffic (nominated for three Emmys in 2004) and The Ten Commandments (2006).

Andrew Barnicle (Director) arrived as artistic director of The Laguna Playhouse in 1991. Since then he has produced over 100 Playhouse productions and directed 39 of them, including many World, U.S., West Coast and Southern California premieres. Recent di recting projects include Michael Hollinger's An Empty Plate in the Café du Grand Boeuf and Red Herring, Yazmina Reza's Art, the World Premieres of Bernard Farrell's The Verdi Girls and Richard Dresser's The Pursuit of Happiness, the U.S. premiere of Bernard Farrell's Many Happy Returns, Steve Martin's The Underpants, and Somerset Maugham's The Constant Wife. Andy has directed a wide range of works here over the years, including the award-winning American Buffalo, three other U.S. premieres by Bernard Farrell, Richard Dresser's Rounding Third and Wonderful World, and his world premiere adaptation of his wife Sara's translation of Carlo Goldoni's The Liar, as well as Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Othello, and Ibsen's An Enemy of the People. Andrew previously served as Head of Theatre at United States International University's School of Perform ing and Visual Arts in San Diego, and was the Associate Artistic Director of the North Coast Repertory Theatre in Solana Beach, where he directed seven plays, including the San Diego premiere of Torch Song Trilogy. He has also directed at San Diego's Theatre at Old Town, Michigan's LORT Meadow Brook Theatre and Gunmetal Blues and Rounding Third at the Colony Theatre in Burbank. Most recently, Andrew directed The For eigner at the San Jose Repertory Theatre. As an actor, he has appeared numerous times Off-Broadway and in major roles in eighteen LORT productions across the country, including Meadow Brook Theatre, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, San Diego Rep, the Alaska Rep, and five roles at The Laguna Playhouse, including The Actor in Enter The Guards man, Sam Galahad in both the production and on the cast album CD of Gunmetal Blues, and most recently as Lawrence in The Ice-Breaker. He is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association.

ABOUT THE CAST AND DESIGN TEAM

The cast of MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS features: Emily Eiden, Brendan Ford, Leonard Kelly-Young and Jeff Marlow.

MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS has assembled an award-winning design team. The set design is by Bruce Goodrich. The lighting design is by Paulie Jenkins. The costume design is by Julie Keen. The sound design is by Julie Ferrin. Prop design by Kevin Williams.

MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS will begin performances on Friday, November 6 (with a press opening on Saturday, November 7) and runs for three weeks through Sunday, November 22. Performances will be 7:30pm on Tuesdays through Thursdays; 8pm on Fridays; 2pm and 8pm on Saturdays; and 2pm and 7pm on Sundays. There will be no matinee performance on Saturday, November 7 at 2pm and no evening performance on Sunday, November 8 at 7pm. There will be a talk-back session following the performance on Tuesday, November 10.
