Beginning Saturday, October 16, 2010, L.A. Theatre Works' Radio Theatre Series will air The Rose Tattoo by Tennessee Williams, starring Mercedes Ruehl, Emily Bergl, MarieClare Costello, Tim DeKay, Brent Hinkley, Anthony LaPaglia, Carol Locatell, Kate Mulligan, Antonia Rey, Peggy Roeder, Vincent Schiavelli and Claudette Sutherland. The broadcast can be heard locally in Southern California on Saturday from 10 pm to midnight on 89.3 KPCC, and can also be streamed on demand at http://www.latw.org/.

Tennessee Williams' play tells the story of an Italian-American widow in Louisiana who has allowed herself to withdraw from the world after her husband's death, and expects her daughter to do the same. The broadcast includes a piece on the Italians of the Gulf Coast with Anthony Margavio, author of Bread And Respect: The Italians of Louisiana, and also an interview with Tennessee Williams biographer Kenneth Holditch, who takes us on a guided tour of Williams' life during the time of The Rose Tattoo.

L.A. Theatre Works' radio theater series can also be heard on the following stations (check local listings for broadcast times): 89.7 WGBH, Boston; 91.5 WBEZ, Chicago; 94.9 KUOW, Seattle; 90.1 WABE, Atlanta; 94.1 KPFA, Berkeley; 91.1 KRCB, North Bay (San Francisco); and many other stations nationwide.

Major funding for L.A. Theatre Works broadcast series is provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation. Founded in 1989, the S.
