LA Phil Celebrates Pacific Standard Time with Hollywood Sound Concerts

By:

The Los Angeles Philharmonic celebrates Pacific Standard Time with The Hollywood Sound, a program led by Thomas Wilkins, Thursday and Friday, December 8 and 9, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, December 11, at 2 p.m., at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A., 1945-1980, a collaboration initiated by the Getty of more than 60 cultural institutions across Southern California, explores the birth of the Los Angeles arts scene and how it became a major new force in the art world. As part of this massive effort, the LA Phil showcases the film score, one of Los Angeles' most pervasively visible contributions to any art form, in a program demonstrating the stylistic evolution of film music with works by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Hugo Friedhofer, Bernard Herrmann, Alex North, Elmer Bernstein, Henry Mancini, Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams.

The Friday concert is part of the LA Phil's Casual Fridays series, which features a shorter program, is presented without intermission and encourages audience members to attend in comfortable attire. These Casual Fridays concerts also feature a free TalkBack discussion with musicians held on stage after the performance and a chance to mingle with members of the orchestra in the Concert Hall Café.

Upbeat Live pre-concert events take place in Walt Disney Concert Hall's BP Hall one hour prior to the concerts, and are free to all ticket holders. USC film professor Jon Burlingame hosts.
