Kay Monroe's LABITITY Set for Hollywood Fringe
Comedian, Kay Monroe, offers a hard-hitting take on race, gender, and sexuality in the play, Labitity. The preview show will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Theatre of Note.
Written by and starring Philadelphia native Katrina Joli, the controversial comedy features a stand-up routine that becomes an "authentic experience" via the use of vignettes acted out by a diverse cast. Previously, Joli successfully produced Underneath, a feature film that debuted in festivals as far as South Africa. Her original stage play Kathy's Daughter made its premiere in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in 2011.
The show will also be the directorial debut of actress and writer Erin McIntosh. McIntosh has been in over thirteen theatrical productions, most recently appearing in Celebration Theatre's Dream Boy and the San Diego premiere of The Whale by Samuel Hunter. She has also appeared in MTV's Awkward and Lionsgate's The Mooring.
Through Monroe, Joli employs topical humor to challenge the comfort of her audiences. "I want to explore whether the labels or identities we give ourselves are actually necessary or helpful to living a free and authentic life," she says. In coming to the show, "you may see or hear things you don't agree with, but my hope is that it opens the door for conversation. I want to provide an opportunity to find some common ground amidst our differences."
Labitity will run June 4 (preview), 9, 15, 18, and 24, with tickets priced at $12. For tickets and info please visit http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/projects/3762. Press should contact CJ Reid for free tickets, backstage access, and cast/crew interviews.
