Joshua Bell Takes on Dual Role of Conductor & Player in Vivaldi's Four Seasons

By:

Hollywood Bowl favorite Joshua Bell brings all four seasons to summer at the Bowl when he leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic from the violin in Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Tuesday, August 9, and Thursday, August 11, at 8 p.m. Additionally, former Dudamel Fellow Perry So makes his Bowl debut, leading the LA Phil in Tchaikovsky's Serenade both evenings.

Joshua Bell, often referred to as the poet of the violin, is the recipient of the Avery Fisher Prize and the newly-named Music Director of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. The Grammy award-winner first came to national attention at the age of 14 in a highly-acclaimed orchestral debut with Riccardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. An exclusive Sony Classical artist with more than 36 CDs recorded, Bell made his Hollywood Bowl debut in 1986; in 2005, he was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame.

Perry So, Associate Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, was one of the inaugural Dudamel Conducting Fellows at the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He also received the first and special prizes at the Fifth International Prokofiev Conducting Competition in 2008; only the third time top prize has been awarded. So was born in Hong Kong in 1982, and graduated from Yale University in Comparative Literatures, where he studied with noted literary scholar Michael Holquist.
