John Densmore Confirmed As Special Guest At L.A. Philharmonic Opening Night

Drummer John Densmore, a founding member of The Doors, is confirmed to perform with LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel and the orchestra in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Opening Night Concert: California Soul, Thursday, September 27. Densmore will perform a classic California song by The Doors, L.A. Woman, on a program dedicated to the music of California to launch the orchestra's Centennial season. Additional classic songs of California will be announced from the stage.

The program also includes Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin, soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae, and Tracy Silverman, performing on six-string electric violin. The evening officially kicks off the LA Phil's Centennial season with a celebration of Golden State creativity from John Adams to Frank Zappa. Elkhanah Pulitzer directs the festive program, spanning a spectrum of music that reflects the unique soul of California.

Plus, classic California songs to be announced from the stage The night also includes the unveiling of WDCH Dreams by Refik Anadol, a visual art installation projected onto the exterior of the Concert Hall. The celebratory evening concludes with a post-concert party with Pink Martini and KCRW DJ Jason Bentley. Proceeds from the LA Phil Gala support the LA Phil's many music education programs, which serve more than 150,000 youths, families, and teachers every year.
