Japanese American Cutural Center Announces Upcoming Events Including Theater, Film & More

THE PARTY - Celebrating 10 Years of Building Art & Community Space in L.A.

For the last 10 years, TN KAT/the Tuesday Night Project has presented free public art spaces -with performance art, music, poetry, visual art, short film, live webcasts and an eclectic array of Los Angeles performers and community members in Little Tokyo, Downtown L.A. On July 18th, TN KAT is holding THE PARTY, the largest Tuesday Night Project event ever, with a variety of DJ's spinning, performers at the top of every hour, a silent art auction, live painters, and a plaza full of dancing, connecting, and community gathering. Everyone is welcome.

JACCC's Katsudo Shashin Moving Pictures series presents:

2pm - Yasujiro Ozu's Ohayo (Good Morning)
Told with Ozu's signature eye and heart for human tales about daily life, Ohayo (1959) is set in a suburban Tokyo neighborhood in the 1950's. Two young boys beg their parents incessantly for a television set and are finally ordered to be quiet. The children take the order literally and stop speaking - completely. Their silence begins to take a toll on their family as well as the neighborhood community.

4pm - Hiroshi Inagaki's Samurai Saga starring Toshiro Mifune
Edmond Rostand's play Cyrano De Bergerac is brought to the screen by director Hiroshi Inagaki in this 1959 samurai epic. Set in Kyoto, 1599, Komaki (Toshiro Mifune) is a decorated warrior with the heart of a poet, upholding honor in his town and teaching young children calligraphy. He falls in love with his childhood friend, but she sees him only as a friend. Komaki then takes it upon himself to help another man win her heart with his poetry.

TWO VIEWS OF MIYATAKE: The photographs of Toyo and Archie Miyatake

This June, the JACCC honors Archie Miyatake of the Toyo Miyatake Photography Studio with the Pacific Pioneer Award for his invaluable contribution to the community. The JACCC is proud to present Two Views of Miyatake a rare and heartfelt exhibition of Archie's work alongside the work or his father and legendary photographer, Toyo Miyatake.
