This fall season, JACCC is proud to present two programs as part of the On the Veranda Lecture Series. Explore the historic art of Japanese woodcut printing with Traditional Printmaking Ukiyo-e on November 21, 2010, and join artist Hirokazu Kosaka for Approach and Observation on December 12, 2010 as he reveals how he created his unique Frolicking Monkeys and Frogs exhibit.

The On the Veranda Lecture Series at the JACCC's state-of-the-art Garden Room began in Spring 2009, and has since presented some of the most informative and insightful workshops by trained masters in an intimate and serene surrounding. "The Veranda itself is a sacred space between man and nature, between structure and garden, between here and there," explains JACCC Artistic Director Hirokazu Kosaka. "It is the meditative space that lingers in-between, the transition that pulls us into both worlds."

The Invention Of Dr. NakaMats
Thursday, 11.18.10 8pm

Dr. NakaMats In Person!

Described by Flaunt Magazine as "Albert Einstein meets Ron Popeil," Nobel prize winner Dr. NakaMats has been at the cutting edge of enchanting Japanese techno-weirdness since he began his inventing career at the age of 5. Now 81, he holds over 3,000 patents (that's a couple of thousand more than Thomas Edison!)

Danish director/visual artist Kaspar Astrup Schröder's hilarious The Invention of Dr. Nakamats, a whirlwind tour through the mind of the man himself, features a score by Mutato Music's Mark Mothersbaugh (of Devo) and Silas Hite, sparkling HD photography, and more utterly dry and touchingly humanist moments. Drinks and inventions on the patio, a one-night-only art show curated by Mastodon Mesa, and a special award presented in-person to Dr. NakaMats! Plus, each ticket buyer will receive a limited edition Mark Mothersbaugh "Invention = Love" original artwork sticker.
