Hollywood Fringe Festival Announces 2012 Ticketing Numbers

By:
The organizers of the third annual Hollywood Fringe Festival have been busy tallying the numbers from this year's event since the festival closed several weeks ago.
  • Over 25,000 tickets were sold (25% more than Fringe 2011), making the festival one of the largest annual events in Los Angeles.
  • The festival sold an estimated $200,000 in tickets this year. Approximately 58% of all tickets were "Fringe-sold" (sold directly through www.hollywoodfringe.org and Fringe-run box offices) and the remaining 42% of transactions were "venue-sold" (sold at the door of participating venues). It's important to note that the central Fringe organization doesn't touch a dollar of this money-- all $200,000 will be returned to Fringe artists and venues.
  • A record-breaking 273 productions this year secures the Hollywood Fringe's place as one of the largest uncurated arts Festivals in the world. Throughout the 18 days of the event (including preview week), over 1,000 performances were staged at 22 venues throughout Hollywood. Broken down by category, there were 111 theatre productions, 40 comedies, 40 films, 26 cabaret & variety productions, 21 events, 12 workshops, 10 musical/opera productions, 7 productions of dance & physical theatre, and 6 music productions.
  • The Fringe increased its efforts to be a more sustainable event this year, partnering with Crown Disposal and Repurpose Cups to diminish waste generated by the event. 86% of the festival's waste was diverted from landfills through recycling and composting. 160 pounds of compostable materials were also transported for use on local farms.

Organizers say they are already planning for the 2013 Hollywood Fringe Festival; dates will be announced shortly.
