Hero Theatre Announces Two New Play Commissions

By: Aug. 21, 2017

Hero Theatre announced two new play commissions today as part of their program, Our Stories Through The Classics.

Korean-American actor Steve Park will write a one-person autobiographical show chronicling his journey from Hollywood to the stage.

Mr. Park, formerly a cast member on In Living Color, has appeared in many films, including two by the Coen Brothers and Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing.

After being witness to a racist incident while appearing as a guest star on Friends, Park called on Hollywood to reframe its portrayal of people of Asian descent in his well known 1997 Mission Statement. He is currently a member of Hero Theatre's acting ensemble.

The inspiration for his play came from a recent series of documentary shorts sponsored by GoPro and produced by Hero Theatre.

Playwright and Hero Theatre member Amina Henry is currently working on a modern day retelling of a Greek tragedy. Set in Brooklyn, NY the play features original songs.

Ms. Henry's play Ducklings recently received a world-premiere. Her plays Bully and Burned were both selected to be on the Kilroys list.
