Palos Verdes Performing Arts (formerly known as Norris Center for the Performing Arts) presents the Broadway smash hit musical comedy, "The Full Monty," September 19 - October 5 at the Norris Theatre in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Based on the Oscar-winning film, the ten-time Tony-nominated musical masterfully balances irreverent hilarity with an uplifting tale of true friendship and features a witty book by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Terrance McNally ("Ragtime" and "Kiss of the Spider Woman") and infectious pop-rock music by composer David Yazbek ("Dirty Rotten Scoundrels").
"The Full Monty" follows the story of six unemployed Buffalo steel workers who come up with a bold scheme to get themselves out of debt. Inspired by a male dance revue that is a hit with the local women, the men figure they can cash in big time if they go "the full monty" and strip all the way. During this heartwarming and hilarious journey, the men bond together to conquer their fears and insecurities, while facing their struggles with body image, parenthood, discrimination and self-acceptance.
"The Full Monty" debuted in a sold-out run at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego before transferring to Broadway in 2000, where it ran for two years and 770 performances. The New York Times called the show "outlandish and delightful!" and the Hollywood Reporter described it as "one of the most exhilarating musical comedy treats to be seen in years...with so many highlights and show stoppers, one loses count." "'The Full Monty' is about so much more than the revealing final seconds of the musical." says Palos Verdes Performing Arts Artistic Director, James Gruessing. "It is an extraordinary, feel-good show about real people, with a tremendous amount of heart. By the end, everyone will find themselves cheering for these six lovable guys -- not only for their exciting bare-it-all performance, but for their courage and strength. It is an inspiring and wickedly funny show that is enjoyed equally by both men and women." "The Full Monty" is produced and directed by James Gruessing with choreography by Paul David Bryant and musical direction by Daniel Thomas. Starring as the six steelworkers who go "the full monty" are Harley Jay (who played Mark in "Rent" on Broadway), Sheldon Robert Morley, Kevin Patrick Doherty, Jonathan Brett, Bryan Dobson, and Paul David Bryant. The production also features Heidi Godt, Eric Ronquillo, Kevin Paul, Jason Sluyter, Jade Anna Rosenberg, Natalie Haro, Cori Cable Kidder, Rebecca Morris, Bradley Nolan, Sarah Meals and Eloise Coopersmith. The production contains partial nudity, adult language and situations and is recommended for mature audiences ![]() |
