Director Robyn Cohen To Helm THE ELEPHANT MAN at El Portal

Co-Producers Tom Vitorino and Alice L. Walker (Thursday Night Theater Club), have signed acclaimed director/actor, Robyn Cohen for The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance at The El Portal Theatre MainStage. Both Vitorino and Walker are thrilled to have Robyn Cohen at the helm directing their cast of twelve. This will be her second time to direct with Thursday Night Theater Club. Cohen's first experience with TNTC was the successful production, A View From The Bridge in 2018. Tickets and information are available now at www.ThursdayNightTheaterClub.com. The show will open March 21 - 23 and April 3 - 14, 2019.

THE ELEPHANT MAN is based on the life of Joseph Merrick. The play opened in London in 1977. It premiered on Broadway in 1979 and won all of the major theater awards, including three Tony Awards, three Obie Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. It was revived in both 2002 and 2014. It will be opening at the historical El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood.

Robyn Cohen (Director) is honored to be directing Thursday Night Theatre Club's "The Elephant Man." In 2018 Cohen also directed TNTC's inaugural production: "A View from the Bridge" by Arthur Miller." Other directorial turns include: "TAPE" by Stephen Belber, "27 Wagons Full of Cotton" by Tennessee Williams and "Hello Out There" by William Saroyan.

As an Actor, she's appeared in: "The Exonerated" opposite Jeff Goldblum, the west coast premiere of Neil LaBute's "The Shape of Things"/Laguna Playhouse, "No Way Around but Through"/Garry Marshall Theatre (starring Scott Caan & Melanie Griffith), "The French Waitress"/Nylon Fusion Nyc (overseen by John Patrick Shanley), "Proof"/Long Beach Playhouse, "Rigoletto"/Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, "The Three Sisters"/Interact Co. "Romance Romance"/CVrep (best supporting actress DTL award) "The Grand Tour"/Colony Theatre (under Jerry Herman), and the west coast premiere of "The Father"/North Coast Rep.(best supporting actress SD theatre critics circle, recent nom.) Additional NY and regional performances with: The Actors Theatre of Louisville, Lincoln Center, The Ford's Theater (D.C.), Goodspeed Opera House, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Great Lakes Theatre/Cleveland's Classic Theater Co., Paper Mill Playhouse, Sacramento Light Opera, Bucks County Playhouse, and the National Tour of "Cabaret." She's acted in the works of Shakespeare, Chekhov, David Mamet, David Auburn, Beau Willimon, John Patrick Shanley, Tennessee Williams, Jon Jory, Fielding Edlow, Theresa Rebeck, Arthur Miller, Jami Brandli, Sam Shepard, Christopher Hampton and Clifford Odetts among others.

Select T.V. credits: series regular on "Gravity" for starz network, "Law and Order True Crime," "Cristela," "N.C.I.S.," "The Defenders," "Invasion," "The Closer," "Angel," "The Strand," "N.C.I.S. L.A.," "Starved," "LAX," and others. Select Film credits: Wes Anderson's "The Life Aquatic" opposite Bill Murray, "The Celestine Prophecy," "Beau Jest" (w/ Seymour Cassel & Lainie Kazan), "Road Hard" (opposite Adam Carolla), James Franco's films "Good Time Max," "Fools Gold," "Sal," Bukowski," & "The Institute," and Richard Halpern's cult thriller "ZZYZX." Robyn has trained, taught and directed at Playhouse West, Studio 4, The William Inge Theatre Festival, and at The Victory Theatre Center. She's made appearances in 75 national commercials, and holds a BFA from The Juilliard School.
