Diary of Anne Frank to Debut at Repertory East Playhouse 3/11

By: Mar. 01, 2011

One of the most poignant stories of the Holocaust, The Diary of Anne Frank, debuts at the Repertory East Playhouse on March 11. The production, sponsored by The Rubay Family, tells of Anne's spirit, optimism and nobility as recounted in her famous diary kept during World War II.

In this gripping new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman, newly discovered writings from the diary of Anne Frank, as well as survivor accounts, are interwoven to create a contemporary impassioned story of the lives of people persecuted under Nazi rule. Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit, and determination.

"We're very proud to be able to tell this story," said the REP's Artistic Director Ovington Michael Owston. "Its message is timeless, and shows the true character of the human spirit."

The REP will create a Museum of Tolerance aimed at creating a human rights laboratory and educational center that will challenge the Santa Clarita community to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts and confront all forms of prejudice and discrimination in our world today. The REP will also host Sunday Talk Back Sessions with the cast, crew, and special guest panelists to speak about tolerance in our society.

The Diary of Anne Frank will run March 11 through April 16. Show times are Friday and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets are $20 for Adults and $17 for students and seniors. Group rates are available. Advanced reservations are highly recommended. For tickets, purchase online at www.repeastplayhouse.org or call 661-288-0000.
