'Desparate Writers: The Final Draft' to Play in Santa Monica March 27 - May 10

By:

Struggling writers Ashley and David are about to have their house sold out from under them. Ashley's baby clock is ticking and she wants to get married. David needs to get his ducks lined up in a row. They will do anything to get a script sold...ANYTHING! The world premiere stage comedy, "Desperate Writers: The Final Draft," written by Joshua Grenrock and Catherine Schreiber, starring Brian Krause ("Charmed") and Kate Hollinshead ("Emmerdale"). Kay Cole is directing. The production premieres Saturday, April 4 at the Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica.

"This show is a madcap, screwball comedy that harkens to those great Preston Sturges films of the 30s and 40s, but with a definite contemporary edge," says Kay Cole, an award-winning performer who created the role of Maggie in the original New York producton of "A Chorus Line" and has since established herself as one of L.A.'s most sought-after stage directors and choreographers. "It is one continous comedic roller coaster ride." Cole most recently staged the L.A. Times "Critic's Choice" Interact Theatre revival of A.R. Gurney's "The Dining Room."

Playwrights Joshua Grenrock and Catherine Schreiber met when they starred together in "Sleeping Giants" at Front Row Theatre in Los Angeles. Their scripts have been optioned/developed by Disney Studios, CBS and Kate Hudson's Cosmic Entertainment, among others. Schreiber was a co-creator of the "Stalin" mini-series, developed by CBS in association with Fries Productions. Schreiber was recently interviewed on CNN/ Headline News (airs March 18, 19 on TMC 205, afterwards view on desperatewriters.com).

Brian Krause achieved high praise as series regular Leo Wyatt on Aaron Spelling's hit TV series, "Charmed," and recently co-starred in the Justin Golding feature, "The Gods of Circumstance." Kate Hollinshead, a series regular on "Emmerdale" and "HeartBeat," was lauded for her portrayal of Nell Gwynn in the Rogue Machine staging of "Le Compleat Female Stage Beauty." The production also features Vivian Bang, Scott Damian, Joshua Grenrock, Stephen Grove Malloy, Eden Malyn, Catherine Schreiber, Jennifer Taub, and Andrew Ross Wynn.

"Desperate Writers: The Final Draft" previews March 27, 28, 29 and April 3. Opening Weekend is Saturday, April 4 at 8pm and Sunday, April 5 at 2 and 7pm. Performances continue Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sundays at 2 and 7pm, until May 10. Edgemar Center for the Arts is located at 2437 Main Street in Santa Monica.
