Artistic Director Oanh Nguyen and Managing Director Casey Long are pleased to announce Chance Theater's 2011 Season. The four-play Mainstage Series and two-show Holiday Series comprise the award-winning intimate theatre's 13th year of presenting dynamic theatrical productions in Orange County. Season 13 features a World Premiere, a West Coast Premiere, a California Premiere, and a Southern California Premiere.

The West Coast Premiere of the edgy romantic comedy Nerve opens the season January 28 - February 27, 2010. The World Premiere of the three-character musical The Boy in the Bathroom occupies the second slot of the year April 15 - May 22. The Southern California Premiere of the multi-award winning Jerry Springer: The Opera runs during the summer July 1 - August 7, and the California Premiere of the quirky and imaginative Up closes the season September 23 - October 23.

The Holiday Season consists of two revivals of Chance favorites: the not-for-children un-holiday tradition The Eight: Reindeer Monologues (eighth anniversary production) and a family-friendly audience favorite: Anne of Green Gables.

"The number 13 has built a reputation for being unlucky, but I think we'll discover a new norm this year that will result in our most fantastic season to date," says Chance Theater Artistic Director Oanh Nguyen. "Our company is very excited to be presenting the regional premieres of four dynamic and unusual productions, as well as bringing back two audience favorites. However, next year is going to be about more than these six shows. We'll also be remounting our Ovation Award nominated production of The Who's Tommy at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in February, as well as continuing our On-The-Radar and Chance Cabaret Series. We'll be expanding our education programs with more sessions of Speak Up - Take a ‘Chance', Summer Youth Scene and the Adult Chance Conservatory. And we're very thrilled to be starting our resident playwright program with Adam Szymkowicz."

The Resident Playwright Program will begin with the West Coast Premiere of Szymkowicz's Nerve in January. The Chance will then do a workshop of one of his newer plays in May and finish with a reading of a work in progress in July.

"The Chance feels this is an important step in our growth," continues Nguyen. "We intend to offer our home up to a new playwright every year."

The Chance Theater challenges the expectations of storytelling by staging collaborative, intimate, and thrilling experiences. By providing ambitious programming, meaningful dialogues, innovative youth education, and diverse outreach events, we incite, engage, and cultivate a more connected and creative community in Southern California.
