LATW's All-Welsh UNDER MILK WOOD Kicks Off LATW's 2014-15 Season Tonight

By:

L.A. Theatre Works' production of Under Milk Wood (Sept. 18-21) celebrates the 100th anniversary of Dylan Thomas's birth with an all-Welsh and Welsh-American cast recording Thomas's immortal "play for voices" at UCLA's James Bridges Theater.

Sara Sugarman directs Matthew Rhys (The Americans), Kate Burton (Scandal), Laura Evans (BBC's The Basil Brush Show), John Francis (Invasion Roswell), Jason Hughes (Midsomer Murders), Christopher Monger (director, The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain), Cerris Morgan-Moyer (Days of Our Lives), Jo Osmond (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Morgan Ritchie (son of Kate Burton, grandson of Richard) in Thomas's intensely beautiful, poignant and sublimely funny linguistic tour-de-force about the salty little fishing village of Llareggub (read it backwards) -- an enchanted spot where the wicked are forgiven and their indiscretions transformed into rich fuel for comedy.

Original music is composed by Ceiri Torjussen.

Each performance will be recorded live in front of an audience (without sets or costumes), and the final version will air on LATW's syndicated radio theater series, broadcasting weekly on public radio stations nationwide (locally, in Southern California, on KPFK 90.7 FM) and available for streaming on demand at www.latw.org.

Schedule: Tonight, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. All performances take place at the James Bridges Theater, UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, 235 Charles E. Young Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90095 (enter UCLA from Hilgard just south of Sunset Blvd.; park in Lot 3 on the lower level). Call 310-827-0889 or visit www.latw.org for tickets and more information. Tickets: $15-$60.
