CTG's Open House and Community Festival Set for 3/29 in Boyle Heights
Center Theatre Group, through its new initiative, The Shop, is opening the doors of its costume and prop shop in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles on March 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. for a community festival with complimentary food, music, tours and art-making activities.
The event is free and open to Boyle Heights residents of all ages.
CTG began The Shop programming in the fall of 2013 when it initiated a pilot series of workshops and events that offer opportunities for Boyle Heights residents to express creativity, build community and connect the craft of theatre with their daily lives.
In January and February 2014, professional readings of eight plays - two in Spanish, six in English - were presented at the four local Los Angeles Public Library branches in partnership with the libraries and three local theatre companies (Casa 0101, East LA Rep and Off the Tracks Theater Company). And, earlier this month, costumes and props were displayed at the libraries where visitors were able to participate in free hands-on costume design workshops.
At the March 29 community festival, guests will have the opportunity to hear more about The Shop initiative, including news about upcoming workshops that will take place from April through June.
