A Desert Treasure! The Palm Canyon Theatre Celebrates 20 Years in Palm Springs

By:

On Saturday, February 18, the Palm Canyon Theatre will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The event will include a preshow reception catered by El Mirasol, followed by a performance of Evita. Intermission will include desserts, and after the show audience members can meet members of the cast.

Founded by The Layne Family, the Palm Canyon Theatre opened its doors in September 1997 with Romberg and Hammerstein's operetta "A Desert Song." In 2014, Dr. William "Bill" Layne received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Desert Theatre League. In 2015, the Layne Family was honored with the 382nd star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, placed directly in front of the theater, which is located.
The Palm Canyon Theatre incorporates education into every production, hiring professionals as needed to teach aspiring performers and technical crews specialized skills. PCT has a small part-time staff and about 250 volunteers, which include on-stage and off-stage talent. The regional repertory theatre opens casting calls several times a year to people of all experience levels. PCT's casts and technical crews earn honors each year for the theater's well-rounded line-up.
The Palm Canyon Theatre is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the education of live stage production and the enrichment of the greater Palm Springs community and its visitors. The regional repertory theater produces about 13 Broadway musicals and classic plays each year, plus offers a children's theatre camp and production. The Palm Canyon Theatre is located at 538 North Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs. Box Office hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Tickets for this special anniversary celebration start at $75. Sponsors include El Mirasol, Contour Dermatology, Hot Purple Energy, Harold Matzner, Desert Entertainer, Palm Springs Life, Grace Home Furnishings, The Hargreaves Family, Alcazar Palm Springs, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Gay Desert Guide, Canyon Copy and Print, and others.
