New Shows On Sale At Landmark On Main Street
To everything there is indeed a season. And spring 2019 is the season when legendary singer-songwriter Roger McGuinn returns to the Jeanne Rimsky Theater.
McGuinn, probably best known as the founder of the Byrds, had already toured and performed with the Limeliters, Chad Mitchell Trio and Bobby Darin by the time he hit the Los Angeles music scene in 1963.
It was at LA's famed Troubadour that his blend of classic folk and the Beatles beat caught the ear of Gene Clark, and in 1964 he co-founded the group that would become the Byrds with Clark and David Crosby. Columbia Records signed the Byrds in January, 1965 and released their number one hit, "Mr. Tambourine Man."
In 1973 McGuinn disbanded the Byrds. He continued to record and tour, and in 1995 he began the Folk Den Project as an effort to preserve traditional songs. With anniversary CD releases in 2005 and 2016, the Project lives on. As Roger quotes on the back cover, " Before there were books, music saved our history."
McGuinn's 2018 tour was a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Byrds' classic Sweetheart of the Rodeo album.
Tickets for Roger McGuinn are available through Landmark's Box Office, (516) 767-6444 and online at www.landmarkonmainstreet.org. Premium $45 (Friends $40), Select $40 (Friends $35), Standard $35 (Friends $30).
