Molloy College Art Gallery Presents Trauma And Healing: Expression In The Face Of Violence

The Molloy College Art Gallery is honored to present an exhibition of paintings and sketches by Terry Sullivan. It has been almost 25 years since Terry was a passenger on the 5:33pm train when Colin Ferguson opened fire changing the lives of so many Long Island commuters. Trauma and Healing explores one man's journey to recovery through the medium of art.

This exhibition brings together works created over many years of coming to terms with the violent event of December 7, 1993. Still Life on the Long Island Railroad created in the summer of 1994 is a dynamic memorial to the lives lost. The Commuter Blues series of oil paintings are drawn from over a hundred 3"x5" sketches created between 1995 - 1998, offer small glimpses into commuter life.

According to the artist, sketching on the train became a form of therapy "an effort to connect with fellow commuters". Most of these sketches are included in the exhibition. All of these works come together to tell a story of our daily commute, our shared experiences and life on long island.

The exhibition will feature an artist's reception on Thursday, October 4th from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The Kellenberg Gallery at Molloy College is located on the first floor of Kellenberg Hall, near the north entrance to the building. The Gallery is open free of charge Monday -Friday 9am - 8pm.
